Spring 2021 Message From WASC President

Congratulations on a great Spring season!!! On behalf of the Board, I’d like to thank everyone for returning to the fields this Spring and making our Spring season one of the most successful we’ve had in what seems like forever. Our numbers for our rec, intramural, and travel programs all saw new highs and help to continue the trend of improving our club through increased involvement. This Spring the Board made some changes that you may or may not have noticed, but all seemed to improve the use of our facilities and the appearance of our fields. We contracted with an independent company to line and manage our fields in order to provide a higher quality playing environment and they did a great job. Our plan is to expand that into the Fall and really make our complex something special. In addition, we made some changes to our rec and intramural programs which, based off participant and parent feedback, was very well received. Now that the Spring season for most teams has concluded, the Board would like to tell you all about some of the exciting changes and improvements coming this off-season as well as into the Fall:

  • This upcoming season the existing Wyomissing uniforms will no longer be made by Adidas and therefore we will have to modernize our uniforms. The Club is going to take advantage of this and look to update our logo, uniforms, and color scheme to keep that Wyomissing pride, as well as improve our "look". Once finalized, we will send that information out.

  • With that, we will also be instituting a club store for spirit wear and clothing as a fundraiser. More information on where to buy will be forthcoming.

REGISTRATION INFORMATION

  • We will again offer our Youth Recreation Program for the Fall for our U4-U6 children. We will be improving our youth program by moving away from having Mighty Kicks independently run this program and offer it through our club instead, thus allowing the Club to support the borough and community much better. This will continue to be a fun, learn-to-play program with similar playful and enjoyable activities organized through our Club as a newly titled “Little Dribblers" program during your registration. Our hope is to continue to grow and expand involvement in this program within the club as it does help to create long lasting participation with our club as the kids age.

  • This Spring saw great improvements to our Intramural program for our U6-U8 players thanks to Zach Helenik. His enthusiasm, excitement, and organization really made for a more exciting and enjoyable program this year and we plan to grow and build on that moving forward.

  • We also understand that some of our older children (9-10) may want to play, but might not feel ready for travel soccer yet and therefore we will be allowing our intramural registration to extend to age 10 for those children to still participate.

  • At our competitive Travel team level, we are working to increase our registrations and are hoping this fall to be able to offer multiple teams at various age groups and skill levels where appropriate. This Spring our travel teams played great and some finished the season in 1st or 2nd place within the Reading Berks Junior Soccer League rankings. For those looking for more information, our travel teams begin at U9 and extend through U13, though some clubs have teams all the way to U19. The Fall travel regular season begins the weekend after Labor Day and, depending on the division, is 8 or 9 regular season games (at least half of which are home games at our Quarry fields). In the fall there are playoffs for teams finishing in the top two spots in each division. No games are played Columbus Day weekend, though your team may opt to enter a Columbus Day tournament.

HELP FROM OUR PARTICIPANTS

In addition to our programs, the Board is looking for community help and support to improve our facilities, replace worn out equipment, prepare to reinstate the Quarry Classic annual tournament, and strengthen our club for years to come. With that, we are going to mirror what our colleagues in the Wyomissing Baseball program have done with the Berkshire Heights field complex and have received approval from the borough to allow different sponsorship opportunities through our club. Each category has specific benefits and a breakdown of those benefits can be found under Sponsorships on our Get Involved page. These sponsorship programs and levels will help to support our continued plan of implementing and growing our club and program. We are only as successful as those who support us so please take a look and, if possible, help our club out through your business, your family, or wherever available. Sponsorship donations are tax deductible and a great way for some easy advertising due to the location of the Quarry and proximity to the highway.

Outside of sponsorship, we also understand that people may look for other ways to donate. The Board is compiling a list of items in need for the club ranging from new picnic tables, to equipment, to other random items. If this is something you feel more suits your family, please feel free to contact myself or any of the board members directly and we can talk about how to help.

For now, please let us know if you have any questions and most importantly, REGISTER FOR THE FALL!!! We thank you in advance for your participation and look forward to an even more successful Fall season.

Eric Slotkin,

President, Wyomissing Area Soccer Club
